Well, I may as well hang it up

I don't know how to explain this one, but this is
what your fate is. Hey, at least you're cute.

Maybe that's your fate. You're fated to be cute,
and you have good taste.

A new zealander's perspective on Rodeo.

There's a lot of things I like about the rodeo and a lot of things I don't like. As rodeo events gain in popularity nationaly as a sporting event, so has the debate about the humane treatment of the animals and whether or not we should allow it to go on in the US. I for one am on the fence about it. Below is link to one perspective by New Zealander, Andy T. Coombs. What do you think?

Excerpt:
COWBOYS AND VEGANS

COWBOYS

Off to the rodeo to chastise the cowboys. How the hell can grown men go around playing dress ups and calling themselves "cowboys" anyway? If it wasn't for the cruelty it would be laughable. I'm getting ready for a high moustache, mullet and silly hat count. 10 points for a moustache, 10 points for a mullet, 10 points for a silly hat. And 30 points for a combo of any two, with 50 points awarded for all three on the same doofus. I've travelled down here to Waikouaiti, in the vicinity of Dunedin with some people for SAFE. They are kind and gentle folks who actually give a flying fuck, in complete contrast to the Ford Falcon full of shaved and depraved morons I just saw. The ice cream van just passed by.
"That's great", says David, one of the SAFE people, "have an icecream while you're watching your
terror."

Web ethics ?

I have been reading with interest a story from the Online Journalism Review. It examines the the legal/ethical implications of linking your pages to various sites, and including excerpts of various material. This reminds me of the debate elsewhere going on about NPR, my fav radio station, and their new policy on restricting nobodys like me just coming along and linking to their site. (notice there is no link to npr's site, ha,ha,ha.) Sometimes I don't always feel comfortable when I cut and paste, or link, but I tell myself I'm voicing my opinion and providing the source that I'm commenting on, or quoting as I would if I were writing or publishing a paper for coursework or what have you. I feel pretty safe if I treat my online commentary as I would a hard copy--Of course, some of my material comes from just lurking too. I seem to do a lot of that these days. This article doesn't go into that, but does raise some interesting points to gnosh on.

Today the internet has become a place of commerce. Like television, newspapers, radio, advertising is it's main source, so If someone is making money, debates over intellectual property, publishing rights etc become an issue as well as rights to privacy--even though everyone should know by now that there is no such thing as privacy on the net. I think maybe the ethical implications are what should really determine what we do? Remember the term The World Wide Web. The dilemma now as it always has been, is governing something that belongs to no one country or government.

anyway, check out the article if you are really worried about getting sued, or god forbid, flamed!
